    The village of Tarbert

A romantic and unspoilt corner, Tarbert is a beautiful scenic fishing village and ferry link on the west coast of Scotland and is a beautiful gateway into the Kintyre Peninsula.  With a population of approximately 2000 people, the way of life is very relaxed.  Situated around one of the finest natural harbours in the West of Scotland, surrounded by low hills it offers a welcome haven to all who travel by sea, land or air.  It is Argyll’s oldest royal burgh, dominated by it’s own castle, once the stronghold of the clan MacDonald. Today, Tarbert has a large variety of shops, hotels, pubs, cafes, and restaurants with local seafood a speciality. With the supermarket close by, the library with internet access is next door.

With unspoilt lands, a fragmented coastline and deep sea lochs lapping at the foot of the mountains, Argyll with it’s 9000 years of Scottish history is the birthplace of Scotland and the focal point of much of its colourful history. It provides a fascinating picture of bustling trade and leisurely sailing
